Using CommentLane

These terms apply to CommentLane’s website and extension. By using CommentLane, you agree to these terms. If you use it for an organization, you must have authority to do so. The extension is being prepared for public release; features and availability may change as development continues.

Your account and access

The extension uses your Google account and Google Drive and Docs. You are responsible for protecting your account and using documents and webpages you are authorized to access. Google and Chrome have their own terms and policies, which also apply when you use their services.

CommentLane does not give you access to a private website simply because someone shared a comment about it. Google document permissions determine who can read and participate in a group.

Your content

You retain your rights to the notes, comments and other content you submit. You authorize CommentLane to process, store and display that content as needed to provide the features you use, including sending it to your Google documents, caching it on your device and making it available to the audience you choose. This permission does not transfer ownership of your content.

Only submit or share material that you have the right to use. You are responsible for reviewing the destination and audience, including any private information in a webpage address, selected passage or screenshot. Group members may be able to retain copies of information they can read.

Acceptable use

Use CommentLane lawfully and respect other people’s rights. Do not use it to share unlawful content, harass people, distribute malware, send unsolicited messages, gain unauthorized access or interfere with the service or its security. Do not misrepresent someone else’s identity or ownership of content.

Privacy and support

The privacy policy explains what information CommentLane handles, where it is stored, who receives it and the controls available to you. For help or to report a problem, use the support page or email contact@commentlane.com.

Availability and limitations

CommentLane depends on your browser, your network, the webpages you visit and Google’s services and permissions. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, immediate synchronization, compatibility with every website or that a comment will always remain attached to the original page position.

During development, a feature may be incomplete or unavailable. Keep independent copies of information you cannot afford to lose. CommentLane is provided as available, and no guarantee is made that it will meet every particular purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes warranties, remedies or liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.

Stopping use and managing data

You may stop using CommentLane at any time. Disconnecting the extension, uninstalling it, revoking Google authorization and deleting Google documents are separate actions. Export unsent drafts before removing local data. The privacy policy and support page explain the current controls and what remains in Google Drive.

We may update or discontinue features, or stop distributing CommentLane, including to address security, abuse or changes to third-party services. Your ability to access content directly in Google remains subject to Google’s services and your document permissions.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as CommentLane changes. The latest version and its update date will be available here. When a change materially affects how you use the service, we will provide notice through the website or extension where appropriate. Questions about these terms can be sent to contact@commentlane.com.
